How do I get an income and a house in Southern California?

My midlife crisis:

I never got my degree and I never joined the military so I lack a proper education.

Former FSBO. I sold my place to pay off debt. I have some cash now. How do I get an income and a house in the overpriced Southern California market?

My goal are:

1. Secure a stable income to cover a home purchase.

2. Own a primary residence in a safe and quiet area.

3. Own realestate that can either cashflow or earn me equity.

Thank you.
