I was a wannabe REI a few years ago and started googling. When I found a post by BP I was really impressed with the amount and type of information provided, so I poked around...
Since then, and 99% thanks to BiggerPockets for the amazing info and resources, I have become an "actual" REI - I close on my 23rd unit in a few weeks.
I still consider myself quite a newbie in most regards, but hope to build on this foundation and start to scale over this year and next.
Set for life on audible (been in the FI space for a year) --> bigger pockets money --> bigger pockets...finally came around after my roommate told me about it, but FI is my goal so I'm grateful you (Mindy and Scott) have brought me into this world. Without the bridge from FI to RE, I'd have no interest in RE.
I used to read about Creonline. For a while I kind of lost interest about reading about real estate online. I wasn't able to find a great real estate website. I discovered Biggerpockets somehow about four years ago and am still real impressed. It helps me with "big picture" ideas as well as the details of dealing with tenants or selecting the proper flooring for my rentals.
I was working as a consultant at UNFI in Providence,RI and one of the developers on my team shared with me that he owns 7 rental properties. When he described them as 2%ers and that they were local in Massachusetts I was very interested. I shared with him that I own a few but they are further away. Anyways, he is the one that motivated me to look again at investing and to look into BP. I am a pro member but just now (this week) decided to do less lurking and more active posting.
That was in Oct of 2017. Since then I have listened to every podcast. Formed a team to flip locally. Purchased another 2% buy and hold property by doing a cash out refi on one of my other investment properties. Finally, we just found what hopefully will be our first off market flip!
Thanks BP for all the motivation and foundational refreshers.
I Googling for ways to create a better life and financial freedom and found Paula Pant over at Afford Anything. I read her little book Escape, which started putting all of into perspective. Then started some more Googling and somehow I ended up coming across Brandon Turner's book 7 Years to 7 Figure Wealth. That turned me on to the Bigger Pockets website and podcast. Now I'm totally obsessed!
I read ' No money down' a few years ago and remembered they kept on plugging bigger pockets. Then when I was ready to start investing and expand my knowledge, the website had such great SEO that it kept popping up. Now I'm big bigger podcast listener and try and stay active in the forums.
was 16-17 years old and started working with my dad on his investment properties. Decided I wanted to Become a real estate agent for Spokane Wa, found them on youtube couple years back and then on itunes and was hooked instantly
I was looking for educational podcasts for my commute into work on Stitcher. I had crashed and burned before in real estate and wanted to try again. I found the podcast and eventually logged in to the website. Now I listen to at least 2 a day on my commute. It feels like I'm getting a Masters degree in real estate investing. I love it!!!
Podcast search. Listened to about 10 minutes and hated it. Revisited the podcast a year later and loved it. I have listened to every episode at least 3 times now.
Honestly, I was watching a video on Facebook about a “guru” trying to sell how to make money in real estate with no money. He was promoting wholesaling and a bunch of stuff for money. In the comments someone said that BiggerPockets.com had the same info for free so then I went on over and checked it out.
Google! I'm sure I was having landlord troubles and Googled whatever issue I was having. Sometimes still when looking at REI stuff via Google, BiggerPockets still pops up as one of the results, and on the first page too!
