Best type of Rock for Parking Lot?

Hello BP!

I am working on developing some land I have into Boat/RV parking. 

That being said....

1) What type of rock did you use? 

2) How was the lot layered?

3) Did you do anything to prevent weeds in the future?

I was considering crushed concrete but I'm not sure if that will be the best choice.

 If you are worried about weeds, its more about the barrier that you put below the stone. Crushed concrete can work well, it really depends as we have used peastone, gravel, crushed concrete. If you have boat and RV parking you are gonna want atleast 6" of stone compacted 95% or greater.

Depends on your soil type

Hill country rock just grade.     

Black soil or sand.

3 inch clean rock or recycled concrete.  4 inches for base.  Wait till it rains then drive something heavy to pack it in.  Then 4 inches or 1 1/2 inch with the fines for the roads.  For the parking I would just use the 3 inch clean.  

Really recommend you use the engineer geogrid fabric for roads. The lay 4 inches of 1 1/2 inch with the fines.   Must be 1 1/2 or larger to work.  Smaller or pea gravel will work thru the mesh.  No potholes ever.  Don’t grade to deep though.

You will get weeds even in rock.  Mix both the 1 year pre emergent and the All kill and spray together. If you’re spraying and it is not dying you have water hemp.  Ask for a spray with strength 10 to 14 on the label and spray higher mix.

You only geogrid the roads and not the parking? 

I got a quote for $2.15/sqft and the salesman said that I may not need a retention pond if I use enough of this stuff.

 Yes, based on the other facilities near by it will be mainly Class A RV's and Pontoon/Fishing Boats.

Do you know with it being compacted a 95% will it be hard to install Canopy covers later on down the road?

Check with your zoning group on storm ponds.  We only geogrid the driveways.  Used 3 inch clean on the parking. Drive on when it’s wet and compact.

 Thats really a local site condition question. Do you have geotech?
