New to A2 and looking to meet folks / get involved in the game locally!
Hi everyone,
I recently moved to Ann Arbor from NYC - very excited to be here!
Really interested in networking and deciding what types of things to get involved with in the local market. Considering airbnb's downtown, long term rentals in up and coming areas near burns park, fixer uppers...pretty much anything except student housing - that feels hard!
I am also considering investing and helping a local developer raise money for future projects and would just love to get plugged in to the local scene in general. I recently invested in a small multifamily deal outside of Detroit that I found through twitter!
Does anybody know of any good groups or any folks familiar with the local market interested in grabbing a coffee or beer sometime?
Thanks,
Zac
Also - does anyone have any General Contractors they have had a good experience working with for rehabbing properties that are old / decayed?
Hey Zac!
Hope Ann Arbor is treating you well!
Deciding what to invest in can definitely be overlwhelming since there's so many roads for real estate. I started with LTR and moved to STRs and now considering apartment complexes.
Developers can be a great asset to have and I'm sure they would appreciate what you're trying to do.
I'd suggest looking for local FB groups (search Ann Arbor real estate and/or related keyworkds) or even Meetup.com is a great networking site for related topics.
Best of luck to you in your journey!

Hey Zac, congrats on the move. My family and I nearly landed in A2 back in 2017. We offered on several homes before ultimately deciding to open our search a bit wider. We landed in Troy in the Metro Detroit area.
Still, I thought I'd invest in A2. But when I started doing the numbers on potential rentals I realized they weren't going to meet my goals. So I ended up investing in Detroit proper and built a 12-door rental portfolio. I run one of those homes as a STR.
We're now back in California but I stay active in the Detroit market and help a lot of (primarily OOS) investors be successful there.
All that to say... be open to your region in general. The Detroit area has a ton of opportunity and lower entry prices, even if it is 30-45 min from you.
Join the Metro Detroit Real Estate Investors group on FB. There are meetups people do in AA as well as the Detroit area.
Best of luck, and enjoy AA. It's a great town!

Hi Zac,
I'm in Ann Arbor as well! Welcome! There are a few groups in the area that you might want to check out:
Dirty House Buyers meets the 2nd Tues of the month in Ypsilanti. It's a networking event with active investors. You can find it on meetup.
Ann Arbor Real Estate Investment Club has a variety of online and in-person events. It's a bit more focused on education. You can find it on meetup.
Further east out in Troy, there's Michigan Real Estate Investors who meets monthly (you can find them online). And the Metro Detroit Real Estate Investors group who also meets monthly and has a very active Facebook Group.
Let's connect! I'd be happy to share more info.
