Seeking Advice on REI and Career
Hi Bigger Pockets Community!
I’m seeking advice from anyone willing to share their insight.
My ultimate goal is to become a limited partner, private lender, and owner of several triple-net retail spaces and residential apartment buildings, eventually working my way up to luxury apartment complexes with 500+ units. I understand this will be a long journey requiring significant capital, strategy, and time, but I’d love guidance on how to start moving in that direction.
I’m a 23-year-old college graduate with a degree in Finance, and I have completed a Real Estate Finance course that introduced me to underwriting and the fundamentals of the industry. I actively follow real estate news, monitor market conditions, track economic trends, and listen to the BiggerPockets podcast, of course!
Currently, I’m sharpening my skills, applying for Capital Markets and Debt & Equity Placement Analyst roles, and considering pursuing a Master’s in Real Estate Development. However, this job market is tough.
One of my short-term goals is to acquire a duplex within the next two years. So, if you were in my position, with big ambitions, limited capital, what steps would you take now to set yourself up for long-term success in achieving these goals?
I would really appreciate any advice!! I would also love to connect with you all! Hope y'all have a great day!

You have some amazing goals set for yourself! I think the next step would be to do your due diligence and narrow down a market where you want to invest. What’s more important to you - immediate cash flow or appreciation? Deals in markets such as Detroit and Cleveland look great on paper for rent to price ratios while deals in San Antonio lean more towards long term appreciation.
