No STR license and monthly tenant left days into lease

Curious what you would do. I had a tenant who was transferred days after arrival and left. They paid their first months rent. I am not licensed as a STR and do not collect transient tax. If you were to get a new tenant during the month they paid for what would you do? Legally I am not supposed to rent short term and charging rent for the same space twice is also not legal. Just wondering what others have done in this situation. A usual tenant in this situation would have been with me years and would have given notice of more than 1 day.

If you are sure they have left early, clean the unit, return deposits, etc. and advertise it as available at the end of the month. Legally it still may be rented by the tenant until proper key turnover. Show it as available next month. You can have a tenant ready to move in the day your current lease expires. No problem with STR no loss of rents while finding a new tenant.
