How can I provide value or be of value in real estate? I want to co host, get into short term rentals and medium term rentals. I don't have a w2 job but I have the time to be of service.  I'm from Washington Heights in manhattan ny. I would love to hear any tips/advice.

Hey Eddie,

You would need to become knowledgable in an area of real estate to provide value. I would start by going to Youtube.com and learning everything you can about STR and MTR, and start reading books as well. Or you can ask people who are already doing it in your area, and you can try and shadow them.

As far as getting into buying STRs and MTRs, you need some type of capital to start.  It's very difficult to buy a property with 0 knowledge and 0 money, so I would find a job to get some money rolling in and then binge on different information sources.

Its not just going to fall in your lap, real estate is much harder than that.

Hey @Eddie Soto, like others have said, read everything you can to get some book learnin'.

Book learnin' will only take you so far. You need to start saving cash.

I am not sure how you do that without a W2 job. Unless you are a consultant or something.

It is a bit confusing.

Welcome to BP!

Outside of what I share below, I recommend working with a group that wholesales. Run with them to get some good experience and exposure.

One of the best things you can do right now is educate yourself. And you've joined one of the best communities for all things real estate investing.

1️⃣ Download this ultimate beginner’s guide: https://assets2.biggerpockets.com/uploads/user_file/file_object/1694/UBG_2018.pdf

2️⃣ Read BP beginner books on investing: https://store.biggerpockets.co...

Also read, Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki

3️⃣ Subscribe to BP podcasts or YouTube channel and watch their webinars.

4️⃣ Ask questions here on the forums.

5️⃣ Visit (join) a local (and legit) real estate investment association.

6️⃣ Consider joining a BP bootcamp: https://www.biggerpockets.com/blog/real-estate-investing-bootcamps

I wish you all the best in your investing journey!

Would 100% recommend reading Avery Carl's book, "Short Term Rental, Long Term Wealth."
