Has anyone installed a sauna at their STR? If so, what has been the feedback?

There may be some liability issues because of the high-heat. Account Closed installed one in one of his short-term rentals in the Catskills. He can give you some feedback.

Insurance typically does not love Sauna's. And It heavily depends on the market. The markets we are in, sauna's don't make a difference so its not worth the cost/upkeep.

Yes and that is why it goes back to checking with your insurance company. Just like having a pool, you have rules with the sauna as well. In 5 years, never had a maintenance issue or call from a guest with a question or problem about it. I don't know how often it is used, but it does show up in our reviews from time to time.

I love a sauna and will be putting on in my new place after I close. But as an STR, an indoor sauna I cant see making much difference tbh. I think if it were an outdoor barrel sauna with a great view it would make much more sense

I’d do two things: check with your insurance and your cleaner 😅

If it's a super luxury property, then maybe. Otherwise, it's just something else to maintain and troubleshoot (and explain to guests how to use).

Is there any concern for liability? My worry would be that somebody gets a bit to inebriated and decides to be a hero and cranks the heat up past what they can handle and ends up in some kind of medical situation. I suppose if it's electric you could limit the temperature to something more mild.

I have an indoor sauna in one of my pool cabins. When I bought the cabin it already had it. We get people mention it positively in our reviews from time to time. This cabin has an indoor heated pool so not really sure how much it adds to the ADR if any.
