Is joining the local REIA worth it?

Hello All,

I've been a member of BP since I purchased my first and only rental property in 2016 but have not been active at all. I currently still hold the property; it is a long term leasing investment property. I'm looking to expand my portfolio to rehab and multi-family investing. Understanding the REI is a team sport, I need to connect with like minded individuals so I'm contemplating joining REIA and other real estate investing meet-ups; any recommendations?

Happy Investing :-)

Tasha

I can only speak to my experience with my local REIA in Phoenix. They meet monthly, I've been several times. But to be honest, the events put me to sleep. There is great attendance but the room is filled with newbies who are looking to get into real estate investing, and the content is definitely tailored towards beginners.

It doesn't hurt to attend your REIA for a month or two and see what vibe you get. I have always found a lot more value hanging around the BP forums and listening to the BP podcasts than I have at my local REIA.

To add to Scott's post, you may get more value by asking seasoned local investors to coffee! That way, you make a friend in your market that may be willing to help you navigate those waters.

Yes, it's worth joining. You'll meet other investors that you can get to know more outside of events.
