Semi new real estate investor looking to expand my portfolio

Posted

Like many of you, I spent years in school thinking that the path to financial freedom was through a high paying W2 job, a 401k and a large savings account. I took that path. It was not until very recently when my wife was pregnant with our second child that I decided I needed a contingency plan and I needed to do something more responsible than letting my money sit in a savings account. I had an "aha" moment while at my grandfather's funeral late last year and purchased by first STR. From there I developed a 10 year plan hoping to make some kind of real estate investment every year. That brings me here. I realize I know very little compared to most of you and want to learn from the best. I look forward to connecting with like minded, hard working individuals that can help make me a better investor and person.

Please feel free to reach out! If you are in Dallas or the DFW area, I'd love to connect!

Quote from @Bruce Lynn:

Congrats....sounds like a good plan.

Where is the STR? Is it performing better, worse, or as you expected?

Will you buy more of those or do something different.

STR is in the smokies. It is performing pretty close to where I expected, maybe slightly below. It has only been running now for about 5 months and has basically increased in revenue every month, so it's hard to say where I will end up at the end of the year. I was just hoping to break even first year and I think I'll be pretty close to doing that even with all the upfront costs.

I am open to anything that can be make me money in the next 5-10 years. A little cash flow would be great, but I am focused more on appreciation at the moment since I am young.
