I’m thinking about building a detached garage with a loft rental on top ? Has anyone tried this? Any estimates on cost? Thank you all for the help!

I've built a couple. They're fun and great. Here in the Pacific Northwest any exterior (stairs) wood  rots quickly, so I choose to put my stairways inside.  1000sf for cars, 1000 sf on top, three rooms and full bath. Total cost materials only was approx 50k, that's 10+ years ago. Largest expense was the mono slab. Labor was me.

@Tamera Means depending on sq footage and quality of finishes you're looking at 100-150k all in. First you have to make sure your zoning allows for a DADU and what the setbacks are.
