What he said ^^. You can use 10K for a 3% downpayment for a primary residence and then house-hack. Would make sure you have some reserves leftover for unexpected expenses and a margin of safety.

@Cheryl Lefaive sorry for the confusion - I was meaning in NZ, most investment properties have to be 40% down. I have my Greencard now so my brother and I are looking to partner together and partner up on deals in the US.

You could do a 0% intro credit-card. Creditkarma or nerdwallet.com usually have their top picks. Depending on your financial situation, you can use the credit card to live off/use for everything now and hoard your cash from your paycheck. Pay off the cc once you acquire the property.

Sweet. I am from NZ myself but now have a Greencard. My brother wants to get into the US market as he is having to come up with 40% down payments for investment properties. We are wondering how to get started - had a feeling cash is king so thanks for the clarification!
