Local investor Corey Hawkinson has been successfully investing in real estate since 2012. Through utilizing 1031 exchanges Corey has turned two condos and a single-family home into a total of ten rental units.

As he grew his portfolio, Corey wanted to find an area where he could invest while also improving the community. His partnership as a landlord with Ally Supportive Services has allowed Corey to profitably increase his portfolio while also helping community members struggling with homelessness.

During the day, he works in Commercial Lending as a Portfolio Manager for United Bankers Bank and is a husband and father to two children, ages three and one.

Special Guest: Amber Hanson
Amber Hanson, MS, is the Housing Director for Ally Supportive Services. She started Ally Supportive Services with her business partner, Nathan, in 2013 with the purpose of providing person-centered, clinically sound services to end homelessness in Dakota County.

All ages welcome!

@Stephanie Pinto If you are open to NW Wisconsin (still driving distance from the Twin Cities) a few MF properties built after 2000 sold in Roberts, Hudson (1), and Menomonie last year. You can also find newer multi-family in Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire. My understanding is that in the Twin Cities the numbers on new construction MF no longer make sense but I can send you a few contacts if you want to explore that option.

@Bryce Veazey Welcome! The Twin Cities is an awesome place to live and work (besides the winter weather - currently on what feels like our 20th snowstorm of the year). As far as investing it really depends on what you are looking for. Like James mentioned, although we are a Midwest market we aren't the cheapest option so cash flow can be tight. Some of the pros: stable appreciation, low vacancy and lots of small multi-family options if you are looking in Minneapolis or Saint Paul. What's your ideal property type and RE goals?

@Zach Gulbransen We've got a networking group that meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at different RE projects around the Twin Cities. We are doing an informal happy hour next Tuesday the 13th (not the 3rd Tuesday) at Lake Monster Brewing. Just added it to the BP events page. Would love to have you join us!
