I work for a company that I own a "very" small percentage of, not voting stock, and the company has been approached for a buy out. It this were to happen (owner seems to think about a 10% chance) after taxes I would clear about 1.2 million. I already have a decent 401k and other investments so "if" this were to happen I would use it in Real Estate, all of it in buy and hold. My question is this, in Real Estate 1 million doesn't seem like it will buy a lot, maybe 4 homes free and clear, so how the heck does everyone keep coming up with these million dollar scenarios? I searched and couldn't find this scenario so if it has been asked before I apologize.
