Hey Mike, Is this something you have experience with? I am new to bigger pockets/RE investing and would like to learn about these DC tax sales.

Questions from a newbie regarding REIAs 1) I am probably a ways away from looking from my first deal. In just focusing on education right now. Should I be looking to go to investment associations at this point? 2) Are there criterion I should be looking for or are all pretty much the same? 3) Are there criterion that they have before allowing you to come to the meetings? For example, being that I'm not ready to start doing deals, do they not want people like me there ? 4) What usually goes on at the meetings?

@Tyrus Shivers

@ Rachel H.

Thank you both for the input. The pre-licensing course sounds like a good idea.

Happy Friday!

For someone who is just starting out and does not know alot about real estate, is there any value in pursuing something such as a realtor, home inspector, or appraiser license to gain more thorough knowledge of real estate, property, market trends etc? My goal is to be an investor and I would only use any of these if they were advantages to getting deals done. However my primary purpose in taking any classes would me to gain in depth knowledge.

If reading credible books and doing all the things that BP offers and recommends for education suffices (which I am doing and will diligently continue to do no matter what) then I am more than ok with that. I just wanted some thoughts.

Hello to all. I came across BP about a week ago and am super excited to start my real estate investing education. I am in a Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, D.C. I have very little real estate experience but I recognize the benefits of investing in real estate and therefore have made a commitment to become as educated as possible in regard to investing. I have jumped headfirst into the Ultimate Beginner's Guide, blogs, forums and podcasts. I would like to give a sincere thanks to all who contribute and share how they have built the wheel so that people like me won't have to reinvent it.

Thanks for the response Michele. I just noticed that I made a rookie mistake and did not place my first post in the New Member Forum. I'm going to copy and paste over there but will be glad to communicate on this one as well.

To answer your question, I am pursuing a house to use as my primary residence but will be looking to make it a rental in about three years and then moving on from there.
