we want to move to a different state and once we sell we have 30 days till we need to move out of the house we are currently in. The 20% 85k would still be available but the bank said since I don't have enough proof of income they would need the amount the old house sells for plus the 20% to put the loan in my wife's name because she doesn't make a whole lot each year

Thanks everyone. I might have exaggerated the credit a little I was just frustrated yesterday when I found out I had been denied I still have an excellent rating in the mid 800's. Basically what we found out is we have to put the loans in my wife's name but have to sell our house first to have a large down payment for what she makes but that means we only have 30 days to find a home we like.

Also had been with BP for 25+ years before being laid off

What if you have 20% down payment, 900+ credit score but can't get a loan because you are self employed and can't prove 2 years of income stability. Income over 6 figures per year. Recently laid off from BP and started own consulting firm 8 months ago.
