Quote from @Mohammed Rahman:

Hey @Caleb OConnor - congrats on passing your license! I actually got my license last year and can give some advice here.

As a new agent, you won't have much to offer to any broker unless you have a solid network you're tapping into to start closing deals. Brokers know this, and brokers also know that most agents quit or sizzle out within their first 12 months. Broker commission splits range from 50/50, to 80/20, or even 10/90 in your favor depending on if you join a brick-and-mortar broker or cloud brokerage.

Broker's are incentivized to bring on as many agents as possible, because it's very little cost for them and they get a chunk of your commission on all deals.

The conversation should be more of YOU interviewing them. Look for a broker that can provide you:

- other senior agents in the office to mentor you

- other agents in office that will let you join their open houses (this was crucial for me to build my buyers list)

- a support system and staff of office admin that can answer your random questions/calls/emails etc. about paperwork

- a solid training methodology to teach you the ins & outs of your MLS system.

- investment in the agents in the form of spending $$ for marketing, CRM systems, etc,

Thank you Mohammed for these insightful comments! Wow, this is some good stuff to start off with in my interview. I really appreciate it. I’m ready to be on this journey for the long haul and eager to genuinely help others in their real estate purchases.

In addition to meeting licensing requirements and having a comprehensive understanding of pertinent real estate laws, real estate agents have a long list of responsibilities. These agents typically do the following:

  • Advise clients on mortgages, market conditions, and pricing
  • Advise sellers on how they can make their homes more attractive to buyers
  • Compare properties to determine fair and competitive market prices
  • Generate lists of appropriate properties for buyers based on their price range and needs
  • Guide buyers and sellers through the transaction
  • Manage lists of contacts
  • Mediate negotiations between buyers and sellers
  • Prepare and submit all required paperwork, including various contracts
  • Present all purchase offers to sellers for consideration
  • Promote properties through advertising, listing services (such as MLS), and open houses
  • Show properties to prospective buyers
  • Solicit potential clients to buy, sell, and rent properties
  • Stay current with real estate laws and trends
  • Work nights and weekends to accommodate clients' needs

All the best

Thank you so much @Wale Lawal ! This was really helpful and I appreciate you taking the time to answer.

Howdy guys! I just got my real estate license here in Texas, and I’m about to start interviewing with brokers… What aspects about a real estate agent are brokers looking for and will set me apart from the rest?… Also, I’m about to apply for a different job because I need a more steady/higher income, but I’m worried that the Brokers will think I need to be %1000 committed to real estate (which I am no doubt, been listening to BP for a year now and I’m obsessed with real estate).

Thank you all for taking the time to read this and I’m looking forward to any input! Have a blessed day.
