Post: Create an LLC for AirBnB Househack?

Hello,

I am planning on purchasing a multifamily home with a VA loan sometime in the near future. It will be my primary residence, and I will rent the other units. I am in a tourist heavy area, so it would be in my best interest to offer short term rental out of the unoccupied units. Since I am using a VA loan to cover the purchase of the property, I am planning on managing the property using the LLC. I have seen some people claim that this is not necessary, but I am interested in maximizing my protection from lawsuits. I don't feel like I can solely rely on AirBnB's liability insurance, because I plan to post the property to multiple websites. Don't I need an LLC for a business bank account? Shouldn't I get a jump on treating this as a business as soon as possible to establish legitimacy for my business down the line?

Hello everyone,

My name is Calvin. My wife and I moved to Rockledge, FL last year. We're currently renting, but we're looking for our first home. We're trying to house hack our property for either long term or short term rental- whichever makes sense for the property. So far, we haven't found our deal yet. I think a few properties' price tags have made me a little more gunshy than I would like to admit, but I figure those are people trying to take advantage of the seller's market. In any case, we're very motivated to make this happen, and time is on our side.

If there's anyone in the Rockledge/Titusville/Merritt Island/Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach area who can spare their time to tell us about their journey in real estate, we'd absolutely love to hear from you.
