Thank you for your insight Natalie! That sounds alot like my plan though didnt consider using the basement for myself as privacy would almost be lile a duplex. Giving me lots of ideas to work with!

@Brad Hammond
Thank you Brad! This is reassuring and will definetly keep the hunt going. I should look into value adds or turning a basement into a room!

Ive been trying to find properties to house hack in Portland but all the multifamily units even duplexes seem about $400,000 +.
Have any of you ever house hacked a single family home? I have read Craigs blogs, which his method seems to be the only way i can make something work. Ive seen some single family homes with 4- 5 bedrooms for around $375,000-400,000

Hey there BP community, I've been pondering about how I should go about starting my REI journey. I'm doing a apprenticeship in plumbing in Missoula Montana and have about 2 years left and don't want to move away before I get my license. I've been reading books this forum and listening to lots and lots of BP podcasts over the last 2 years and now eager to push the start button however my market here is pretty expensive. I'm wanting to get into residential multifamily but all the I've found here are mostly 100,000+ a unit for duplex,tri and quadplexes. I'm wondering if I should House hack one of these even if it isn't a great deal but do it if the numbers run ok and I live rent free for the remainder of my apprenticeship then save during the meantime to invest in a market that makes more sense or continue to rent and save? Thank you for your time.
