I have completely wondered the same thing. My husband and I were both active duty Army and we felt like we never got to spend time together or with our kids. We decided that we could downsize our lifestyle and I got out of the Army after being in for nine years. We just began wondering why in the world are we sacrificing all this precious time we could have together. Now we have something to show for four deployments...rentals! The income we get from them (albeit it's small for the time being) allows us to travel now. We just backpacked in Ireland thanks to our rentals. We aren't looking to be rich monetarily but the memories we are getting are priceless. Good luck to you in your future endeavors.

My husband and I have had a long term goal of investing in real estate and just recently started investing. We purchased five houses last year, all of which are producing positive cash flow. I just recently separated from the military and have a full GI Bill to use. I would love feedback on a degree or certifications that would benefit us in our real estate endeavor. A little background on myself, I have a BBA in Economics and an MBA. My first thoughts are to get a second degree in accounting in order to better understand that aspect. I just don't want this GI Bill to go to waste and, unfortunately, I can no longer transfer my benefits to my dependents.
