@Carlos Ptriawan I figured the cost would vary depending on region, but I wouldn't have thought to ask the insurance broker. Thanks for that!

Thanks everyone for your input!
@Dustin Allen It's helpful to have $300/sq ft as a number to compare to. I'll check and see what the GCs estimate.
@J Scott Great list of questions to consider (some I wouldn't have thought of).
@Carlos Ptriawan Hmm, interesting. So building would cost approximately 85% compared to retail price for newly constructed houses . . .It's good to know this "easy" method for calculating.

Hey everyone, I'm wondering what the cost would be to build a house from scratch if I had land? (permitted to build on, of course) I'm in California, and I'm curious about building a home since the cost of buying one is quite expensive. I'd love to hear from anyone experienced with this or who's done research on this as well.
Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!
@Sean Smith I appreciate the info about neighborhoods in Davis and where I can find multifamily properties.
@David A. I'm thinking about using private/hard money or seller financing, but I'm open to exploring all the options.
My name is Chandra, and I’m planning to invest in my first property this year. I currently live in the Bay Area, but I’m looking for a multifamily property in or near Davis, CA to house hack. As a creative person, I will be using creative financing to fund my deal. I’ve read Brandon Turner’s book — Investing in Real Estate with No (and low) Money Down, and it was really eye-opening. I’ve also delved into the BiggerPockets podcasts, and am enjoying the wealth of information that’s available.
I’d love to connect with fellow investors in or near Davis, as well as multifamily investors. Advice and suggestions are welcome! Especially on finding off-market deals and financing for commercial properties.
