@Jeff Tomkinson

Some members have STRs and the topic comes up from time to time. There is usually more than one convo going on at a time during these meetings so the main topic isn’t always the topic everyone ends up discussing. You can always bring it up and speak to other members about it.

BP won’t allow me to post specific meetup info but it’s on meetup.com. It’s called the North Myrtle Beach Real Estate Investors Meetup.

I live very close too. We have a monthly REIA meet up at the Bob Evan's restaurant right there. The topic of our next meeting (October 5th at 6 pm) is actually vacation rentals. I'm really curious to see how that location does for a vacation rental. Keep us posted

@Benjamin Cohen Welcome to BP and the world of real estate. We have 2 REIA meetups here in Myrtle Beach (since you mentioned having an interest in the area). Each meets monthly. You can find us on meetup.com. I wouldn't worry much about qualifying for a loan. If you find a good deal just partner with someone who has experience. Best way to learn.

@Kristie Gautier Welcome. With an FHA loan you can buy up to a 4 unit building. Has to be owner occupied for a year though and it sounds like you don't live in SC. You may try to buy something as a secondary residence instead. You also have to meet income requirements so speak to a bank to get prequalified and see how much they will lend you. With little money and buying a multi if something goes wrong you may find yourself in trouble financially. I guess it depends on how much money you actually have.

@Ben Callis Hey Ben. Like Alex said, Loris is pretty rural but demand is starting to increase due to more people wanting that lifestyle. I did a flip there about a year ago and it sat on the market for a while before getting fairly close to asking price. Didn’t get a lot of activity. But the house was much smaller than yours. I’m no Airbnb expert but I would say you may get interest from families looking to get away from it all, but definitely not the beach crowd. Just make sure you can find reliable cleaners and handymen in the area. It’s not populated like Myrtle Beach.

Another thought is to subdivide the land. If zoning allows, maybe you can get 3 parcels out of it. Each buildable acre may be worth $15k. Then sell/rent the house. That’s what I did.
