Quote from @Carlos Rodriguez:

I've used the VA loan twice to purchase 2 duplexes that I've lived in. Getting 4 units for very little down was a great way to build my portfolio. I agree with Joey, that you'll want to get a lender with lots of VA loan experience. Just be patient with the process and know that some sellers may chose a non-VA buyer due to the lengthy underwriting process. I don't have a VA disability exemption, so I'm not sure how that part works.

Hello Carlos, I'll defiantly keep that in mind when i'm going through the process. Thank you for the advice! Im excited to start the journey.

Hey @Christian Hunter!

The strategy you are implementing we like the call the "Holy Grail" of house hacking haha; purchasing a small-multifamily to house hack with a VA are powerful tools, and done correctly can really help kick start and build a great porfolio. Second is partnering with a great lender who can help you navigate including potential rents to help you qualify for more opportunuities. Our past clients have utilized this strategy for their first 2-3 small-multifamilies, and just over 3-4 years have 10-12 rentals doors. Super awesome!

Rooting for you, thank you for your service, and let us know how we can help!

Hey Joey,
Thank you for the encouragement and insights! The strategy sounds incredible, and I’m excited to dive deeper into it. I appreciate your support and will definitely keep you in mind as I move forward.

Hello everyone, my name is Christian Hunter i'm a Marine Corps veteran originally from California looking to relocate to Houston Texas so I can start my real estate journey. My goal is to use my VA loan to buy a fourplex or triplex and house hack while saving for my next property. Does anyone have some recommendations for investor friendly agents that are veterans or veteran friendly and are familiar with the VA Loan? Thanks in advanced !!

Hello everyone!
I'm looking to use my VA Loan for the first time to purchase my first property. I currently live in Silicon Valley but house prices aren't feasible for me here. I'm looking into moving to Houston Texas so I can purchase a Fourplex or triplex and house hack by living in one of the units. I have the full property tax exemption in Texas for my VA disability, but I'm trying to get clarity on the property tax exemption. Does the exemption apply to multi-unit properties since I will be living in one of the units?
Are any veterans already doing this that might suggest elsewhere ?
Thank you all in advanced!

 Hey Christian,

You would typically prorate the property taxes based on the portion of the property that is exempt. In Texas, the property tax exemption for veterans with a disability generally applies to the portion of the property you live in, so since you’ll be living in one of the units of a multi-unit property, the exemption should apply to that unit.

Hi Zachary, I was hoping that wasn't the case, but that makes sense. I really appreciate the help!
