This meetup is for active investors in the New Orleans market. The goal is to create a space where attendees will share local knowledge, seek advice, and connect with other local investors. This is a no-guru and no-sales meetup. Just real people who want to keep networking and growing, even in this age of social distancing.

How to Attend: This event will be held online, on Thursday, Dec.10th, at 5:30 p.m.  Use this Zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/98598369812

Format:  The meeting will be a round table discussion, where each participant will start by introducing him or herself and answering these questions:  Where do you see opportunity in the New Orleans area market?  And what strategies are you pursuing? (The goal with these questions is to create good discussion and debate among the participants, and hopefully make everyone smarter.)   We'll close the meeting by providing an opportunity for participants to explain their goal for the next month. (And if you hear someone else setting a goal that you can help with, feel free offer to help and/or connect with that person.)

Keywords: The discussion will focus on where we see opportunities in the New Orleans area, including Metairie, Mandeville, and zip codes 70118, 70115, 70130, 70112, 70116, 70117, 70126, 70119, 70124, 70122, 700032, 70114, 70053, 704131, 70058.

Next Step:  If you would like me to send you a calendar invitation to this event, email me at [email protected].

@Greg Jeanfreau Great question on the format. For this first meeting, we won't have a speaker presenting on a topic. Instead, I'd like to get people to introduce themselves, then we can have rounds of discussion questions, e.g. "What's one problem you need to solve in your REI venture?" or "Where do you see opportunity in the local market?" The goal here is to benefit from hearing other people's perspectives. I would also like to be respectful of everyone's time and keep it to a concise one hour. Does that sound useful to you? Do you have any suggestions?

@Paul Waddell II  The meeting will be on Oct. 29th at 6 p.m.

@Chuck Gilotra Yes, please come join us.  This is group is open to everyone who is taking active steps towards their RE goals in the New Orleans market, is willing to share their knowledge, and who are otherwise not jerks.  Even if you are relatively new to investing in this asset class, you can likely share a perspective on where you see opportunity and risk. That perspective may benefit other members of the group, or at least start a good debate.

I'm starting this meetup for active investors in the New Orleans market.  The goal is to create a space where attendees will share local knowledge, seek advice, and connect with other local investors.  This is a no-guru and no-sales meetup. Just real people who want to keep networking and growing, even in this age of social distancing.

@Dan Gerding consider buying a fixer upper in New Orleans. If you fix up a place and make it more valuable, then sell it after two years of having it be your primary residence, you will likely have most if not all of your gain tax free. (See an accountant for details.). Alternatively, consider getting a double and air bnb the other half. Orleans will likely have its best available permit for owner occupants. See NOLA.gov/short-term-rentals
