I can't say I've looked extensively in other new england markets, but based on the greater boston market I think you'd be hard pressed to find a multi under 150k. Have you thought about single family properties?

Currently looking for 3 and 4 unit multi-family properties in the Boston area. Specifically Malden, Dorchester, Arlington, Somerville, Cambridge, Boston, JP and East Boston. Looking for fixer-uppers with the intent to buy, fix and hold.

I should say, it's a little different because I'm looking to open a business in the area, not looking for rental income!

Maybe a little different, but looking for a commercial real estate agent in the Boston area. Any recs would be appreciated!

Welcome to BP! Best of luck in your search - we're trying to do the same thing!

Hey there - looking for potential recs on a Boston area real estate agent that specializes in foreclosures, particularly multi-family units. Any help is appreciated!

I'm working with a realtor now that's pretty good. Ralph Smith Jr. with Sotheby's. He should cover the MF experience - for FHA understanding you'll really need to find a mortgage specialist who specializes in those. Try Andrew Adams with Wells Fargo in Woburn. Tell them Colin sent you!

@Josh Lamm - Welcome to BP! My wife and I are doing something similar to you - only ours will also be our primary residence. Looking in Dorchester and Quincy due to price. We're finding that most buildings in Dorchester are moving pretty quickly and end up being overpriced once you run the numbers, including the work it takes to fix them up. Good luck!
