Assume original price of $100. If you buy at 75%, you buy the house for $75. The original price was $100, so 100-75 = $25 profit.

Now remember, 75 was what you bought it for, so 25/75 = 1/3, or 33%.

I think the best way to get the lurkers to sign up, is to let them know that what they're looking for is on the site, however do not let them see it until they register. For example, if I was a lurker looking for advice on the Chicago RE market, I could see the threads and the first post in all the threads on the topic, however I wouldn't be able to see any of the subsequent posts.

Let them know that there are 14 posts responding to the topic, and I'm sure they will register.

Also, what are the neighborhoods like that you mentioned in your earlier post? I was planning on taking an active role in the rehab/landlord, although I don't want to be traveling to warzones, and I know some neighborhoods in those areas aren't very good.

Hi guys, newbie from Chicago here. I'm not really a new member, however I have spent most of my time here reading, not posting much. I Live in Lakeview, and would like to purchase a rental property within the next 9 months. I also plan on joining a local real estate investment club.

I'm looking for people who invest in Chicago, and wouldn't mind sharing the areas that they invest in and find their deals in.

After looking around the internet for information about real estate investing I finally stumbled across this site, and I have been very happy with what I've found here.

However, I have a question that I haven't seen answered.

Some background: I recently graduated and bought a condo with 5% down at 5.25% interest. I also have student loans, some at 7% others at 3%.

My question is, if I'm looking into buy rental properties as soon as possible, is it better to save my extra money, or pay off either my school loans or mortgage?
