Hello BP friends! I’m a Major in the U.S. Army and only recently became aware of biggerpockets through my girlfriend. I’m not gonna lie, she had to twist my arm to even think about real estate investing but after binging podcast after podcast I’M HOOKED!! Like most things, she’s always right and one day I’ll learn to listen to her sooner. I wish I had all of this information before I purchased my first home a year ago. I’m in a great area in Louisville (St. Matthews) to rent my house out once I receive orders to a new duty station but after listening and reading I don’t think it’s great for cash flow or to break even. I love the idea of house hacking but not sure I want a permanent roommate so I’m going to give Airbnb a shot. I’m finally ready to go all in on an investment property but still feel I have a lot to learn. Unfortunately, I’m the analysis paralysis type so I’m saying it here and now I’m want to get something within the next six months. I would prefer a quadplex but will settle for a single family for the right deal. I have about 8 yrs left for a full military retirement so my goal is to create a cash flow portfolio that will assist during my transition into the civilian work force. Basically, I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up so I’m hoping real estate investing will buy me some time. I’ve been feverishly pouring over the forums as well as other sites that I have found through BP, like Mr money mustache. So I’m adjusting my lifestyle to work toward FI as well. Love this site and eager to learn. I hope someday I can give back as much as I received.
