Which choice is more beneficial? HELOC or Primary Residence Refinance and why?

Should newbies start our journey in smaller markets or try to get in the same markets with the seasoned investors right away?

Start by investing in your local market. You already know the area.

Yea the only thing thats giving me pause is knowing how the city is. I grew up on the westside so I know the neighborhoods very well. Maybe that’s a good thing

@Davin Jones you should invest here in the Chicago area for sure. It isn't "easy" right now, but it isn't easy anywhere. We are in a historically low inventory time, but there are deals to be had. I would look into joining local meetups so you can develop your team. Find the right lender, agent, attorney, etc.

Thank you sir! Definitely looking to attend a meet up soon.

Quote from @Eliott Elias:

New investors should start in their backyard. Invest in the area that you live in. There is a lot to learn from physically being at your project. Too many newbies try to look for the cheapest/easiest market to invest in.

Most definitely agree. Just a little expensive here but n the Chicago area.

Quote from @Taylor Robinson:

Agreed, your backyard is best. That may also mean places you have spent large amounts of time, childhood city, parents city, etc. Drive the neighborhoods and get a feel for the price vs rent analysis. If you find yourself saying "wow rent is higher than i remember" that is a key sign the neighborhood is appreciating.

Research always comes first, then put it into action. Take the leap.

Yea I really want to start here in my city but Chicago is very expensive. It’s also saturated with investors fighting over what’s left out here. Just being patient while i continue my search.

Thank you! I really appreciate it

Hello,

I currently live in Joliet IL and looking to start investing. I prefer Condos or single family homes. I intend to put section 8 tenants in these properties. I'm a 7 year Navy Vet and I used the VA Loan to purchase my current home. I am also 100% disabled. I don't have much experience in investing but I'm willing to work anyone who is motivated. Also my credit score is mid 700s and I have a nice savings ready to invest. Feel free to reach out anytime. I prefer text/email.
