Arlan is correct, you need a renovators builders risk policy, usually Zurich or AIG are my go to markets on that.  One item though, Builder's Risk policies do not have liability coverage attached, so either have a hard conversation with your contractor to discuss this and see if his policy will extend over, or you need to purchase another policy for liability.  

The issue with Jaques' response is that a vacant dwelling policy automatically excludes theft as it is written on a basic policy (there are a few underwriters that will write on a special policy, which includes theft, for a vacant home, but they want operating central alarms in the dwelling).  We can write coverage in all US jurisdictions, give me a call if you wish to discuss.
