Howdy - my name is George Thampy. I'm a recovering i-banker who is getting ready to start an MBA program this fall, and looking to invest in real estate before going back to school.

I'm focused on investing in my hometown, St. Louis, and am primarily looking at 2-, 3- and 4-family buildings. I'm well versed in stock market investing but am totally new to real estate, so I'm reading all I can and listening to the podcasts at 1.5x speed on iTunes! This is a very intelligent community that you all have built, and I'm glad to join it.

All tips on multifamily investing are welcome. My initial thinking is to buy (and potentially fix up) 1-2 properties before heading to school, that way by the time I graduate I'll have paid off the mortgage enough to take a HELOC and invest in a new property, potentially a commercial one.

Any feedback or tips are always appreciated. Thank you!
