They bought the condo at a very good price. We actually already lowered the selling price. At 100k as the selling price, $5k is a lot to spend on "possible future problems". We stayed at the condo while we worked on it, and the heater was perfect, and it has never had a problem. It works better than our furnace at home, at keeping us warm. Furnaces usually start having problems before they stop working, and there are telltale signs of wear and tear. 

The buyers got a bargain on the price of the condo, really. Another condo had several offers over market on the same condo as ours, in our complex. Our other house has a forty year old furnace in it. We are going to put it back on the market. We have bought and sold dozens of homes,  and have never run across this. $5k off for a $100k condo? We already lowered it $5k. And, the average life of a furnace is "At least 15 to 30 years old", I have read. That makes it middle aged, not "end of life". 

Furnaces can run for over 30 years, I have read, we have had some that did. The furnace is 20 years old, but we've had no problems with it at all. It seems a bit like a money grab during escrow to me. We are selling it to them at a good price, and there are not many condos for sale in that price range. We actually sold it before the condo was even listed on the MLS. We are considering putting back on the market. I have never heard "the end of life" bit before, and we have sold dozens of real estate properties. Opinions?

Well, it's boring if you don't like scuba, snorkeling, boating, swimming, fishing, the Mayan ruins, Xcaret, riding around in golf carts, a marina, Dolphin Encounter, etc. in a very secure, safe environment that has a very low crime rate, and is constantly patrolled. We were just down there, and very impressed with the area.

The golf is an unheard of rate for Mexico, is $500/year for 6 months+ $5 a time for owners. It's $50 for owners individually, $85 for non owners. Can't beat that! When the average price for golf in the area is over a hundred dollars- maybe $150. 

The condo prices can't be beat, either, for a gated community, with low maintenance dues, too. Ours will be $50/mo, including water!! And they have shops, restaurants, a lovely clubhouse by the water, with scuba shops, etc. It's a very friendly environment, also. 

When the condo costs $115k, we don't have to make much to make a profit. It's not fancy, but it's in a prime environment. Everyone there raves about the place, and how great it is. People say they come from Europe every year because they love it there so. We never heard anyone say one bad word about the place. 

Parts of Playa and Tulum have crime problems.   

It is halfway between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, Mexico. It is gated, secure, a larger resort, with hotels, restaurants, shops, scuba, snorkeling, a dolphin encounter, etc.
It has a marina and golf course. Anyone have any experience in this area? We will rent it out on airbnb.com and vrbo, etc. and probably use a rental agent. Any advice? We are experienced vacation rental owners. Thanks!

Yes, move the thing!!

Well, sort of right. We want to rent it out to pay for the legal costs of this large property. My husband is more concerned about the workers being unhappy about where the pile is located (less convenient for them?), but you also have to be careful that it is not too close to a road, for fear of neighbors complaining. But, there are options. I say let the workers be a bit inconvenienced, its not their decision to make. Thanks for the response, I don't think he realizes what a negative thing this burn pile is, horribly awful looking. And, it is a classic old brick mansion, with many positives that he will wipe out with this situation. It is on 85 acres of rolling hills, pastures, and thick woods, separated from the city in it's own world. 

I agree, my husband thinks it no big deal. It is a family property that is in the middle of a lawsuit, and we want to rent out the old family mansion on it. The burning pile is used by the many workers that work the horse boarding farm in Cincinnati. There are many woods on the property, and wood and other materials need to be burned to get rid of excess materials. It can be done elsewhere, I think you will - yes, completely turn people off with this huge monstrosity, but he won't listen to me.  

It is on an 85 acre horse boarding farm, the house is about 5000 sq. ft, and would rent (when fixed up) for around $4k/mo. It has a horrible "burning pile" used on the "farm", with old furniture, metal, carpeting, wood, etc. that is burned there regularly right in front of the house (20 ft from it) in a huge pile, that is often simmering. I told my husband that you can't rent a mansion out for that price, with that eyesore there. He says, well, they'll have to overlook it. Yes, they can move it to other places on the 85 acres, yes. I said you want curb appeal, and nice pictures to rent it out to an executive and his family, and that won't work having that next to the house. What is your opinions on this?  

It's currently a horse boarding farm, its a gorgeous property, with woods and rolling hills, and pastures. It is a family owned property, and is worth in the millions. It is the largest parcel of land in the city limits of Cincinnati. We are novices at this, and would like to see something from our inheritance. It does has some slippage issues, but it has been built on. How do you go about finding developers for the land? It is a big undertaking. Would appreciate any advice.
