Thanks for all the welcoming replies!  I certainly appreciate everyones insight.

Nathan - Unfortunately, due to my career, I don't really have the luxury of sticking to where I live with regards to real estate investing.  So, it's either stay out of the real estate business (which I've done up until now and many people do), or figure out a way to deal with the distance (which many people also do).  OKC makes sense for me, because I still have most of my family there and it's a place I visit relatively frequently.  We're also looking to help my sister out with getting set up in a home.  Not as much of an investment for us, but a helpful experience all the same.

Scott - Would happily link up and buy you a beer sometime to pick your brain.  We're keeping an eye out on the Denver market for something that could be a fit, but are a little frustrated with the prices out there, even on stuff that needs a lot work!

Matt - Appreciate the welcome and insight.  As we progress on our RE path, I have no doubt we'll develop LOTS of questions.  Lots of military folks get into the house hacking business, I just don't think it's usually given a name.  Very happy to find BP, as it seems to be a great way to learn from others mistakes.  That said, I'm sure I'll add to the existing literature of mistakes!

Hi all! New to the BP community and excited to pursue REI. I'm a military officer currently living in Denver, CO while attending grad school at the Univ of Denver. My wife and I are avid believers/followers in FI/RE concepts and looking to branch out from strictly equities and diversifying into the RE world. Fortunately, we have a solid financial base, but are at the potentially crippling point of "put up or shut up". We're looking at getting out of our comfy (but extremely expensive) apartment and into a house-hacking-turn-rental property in the coming months somewhere in the greater Denver area. We've also got family ties in Oklahoma City, OK and are considering potential investment opportunities in that area.

I know there is a lot of BP leaders and contributors in the Denver area, so we'd love to link up with some experienced members to learn more about real estate, the local market area, and potential team building (particularly property management). Also, would love to hear from fellow military members about building real estate portfolios in and around military bases. Finding an excuse for dinner, drinks, and good conversation is a plus as well.
