Each municipality is going to have different permitting requirements.  I would go to the county courthouse for their development/permitting department and start there.  Or find a contractor that knows how to navigate the permitting process in your area.  You will likely have to bring some things up to code to make it legal and conforming. Need advice on how to go about a duplex property one unit in the front the other in the rear of property the one in the rear has two entrances each unit has one bedroom one bath and kitchen the problem is it was bought in the 80s like this trying to see how can I make it legal 

Have a duplex one is in front other in the rear two different address numbers was bought in the 70s and want to no and one of the duplex is split into 2 units with own entrances bathroom and kitchen how can I make it legal
