Thank you Michael and Melissa for your VERY valuable comments and insights!  I am definitely going to be looking at Birmingham - very familiar with the city as I lived there until 2017 and visit frequently; had not thought about Montgomery so thank you very much for mentioning all the potential in that city - will be looking there as well. Really appreciate you posting so timely as I am headed to AL next week !

Thanks to all for you feedback / comments / suggestions. I have been in the BP community for over a year and have just recently gotten "engaged" as I was waiting for other parts of my personal life to get "sorted out". It appears that the 'stars have finally aligned" as everything is moving forward very quickly. Appreciate all the assistance/ support! Many blessings to all! 

Hi Nicolas - thank you for the suggestions for the house hacking - headed to AL in a couple of weeks to get started on the search :)

So King Bubba loves to show his affection by "hugging" you with his paws and giving you lots of doggie kisses (he has become my morning alarm clock with the hugs/kisses). He hasn't quite realized that he is too big to be a lap dog so occasionally those "hugs" literally knock me over. We do have a lot of fun here in the mountains of VA hiking the trails. Hello BP Community! 

It is time for me to finally take the plunge and get started with my real estate investing. After a few decades "playing" in the tax / accounting world I took about a year and half sabbatical from the traditional "working world" . While I am currently living in VA I anticipate moving to Northern AL in the next few months (in my Gypsy wanderings I have lived in both the Birmingham and Huntsville areas).

1st - A "home base" for me to live in for about 6 months to a year at which time I would transition it into a rental property (I will be sharing said home base with my 26 year old son and 10 month old German Shephard puppy named Bubba) - so perhaps a single family with enough living space for all of us to have private living space (while we do all adore each other some alone time is required) or a duplex/multifamily?

2nd - Additional investment properties - other son has $$ to invest (as do I) but is currently working/playing in Singapore so would be joint investments - we at this time are interested in multifamily (or any other suggestions from the community). 

Appreciate any advice / suggestions !
