Micheal,

Escanaba/Gladstone is appealing because I have family there so visiting is always nice.  Marquette is another area I like because of the town.  If I could take advantage of some good deals in either location (or within a close drive) then that's what I am really hoping for.  The key for me to be able to invest in those areas is to find someone I trust to manage them.

Hi Michael,

I was recently up there visiting some family and I was reminded of how much I like it.  I briefly glanced at the available real estate and the rental market and it looks promising!  Certainly much better number than I have here in Southern California.  I am just starting out as a buy and hold investor and I have one duplex so far and plan to start acquiring more properties within the next three years.  My question for you is if you would describe the market up there.  Are there any property management companies that you would trust?  How difficult is it to fill a house?  Obviously I am simply asking for your perspective and experience.  I would love to get a clearer picture of the UP.

Thanks!

Eric

Hi Calvin,

I know this is about a year late but I am in the same area and I bought my first investment about a year ago.  It's a upstairs/downstairs duplex and my wife and I live upstairs while renting the down.  I'm currently trying to figure out how to get the funding for a second property.  Currently my strategy is to read as much as I can so I can learn as much as I can.  While doing this I will keep paying down debt and saving.  Hopefully I will be able to make another deal within the next 1-2 years.
