@Jason James Check this site out - Ron Bell writes a blog about the real estate economy in Reno and he is a founder of the REI there.

And here is the REI website as well.

I haven't been to a meeting yet but looks like Ron has extensive information about the market.

@Jason James Hi Jason, I live in South Lake Tahoe about an hour from Reno and I grew up there. I've also been recently looking at investing in the area. Reno still has a very high unemployment rate but is getting better. I won't try to give the exact stat because I don't remember it exactly but it's double digits. The town has had major growth in new housing the last decade and the newest areas are norther Sparks and southern Reno. Southeast and southwest Reno are quite nice.

For investing, old Sparks has some rehabs as well as areas in near northwest (University area) Reno. Outlying northern valleys has a lot for sale and a ton of foreclosures. Get on Zillow to get an idea of what the area looks like as far as prices and what is for sale and where. Let me know if I can give you anymore info!

@Account Closed Welcome to BP. I'm in the Reno area too (South Lake Tahoe). I'm a newbie to BP and RE Investing but it's good to meet local investors!

Thanks @Brandon Turner and @Dmitriy Fomichenko for the tips! Will check them out. I have set up my alerts - those have already been helpful.

thanks for the welcomes. Thank you @Paul Timmins for all the references too! I will check them out. I think my nearest REI club is in Sacramento 100 miles away...but I will make sure to check into it. If anyone out there knows of one in Reno, give me a heads up!

Thanks again

Hi All,

I'm new to BP and a newbie real estate investor.  Have a history in a previous life of owning a few single family rentals and one 4-unit complex, but it's been awhile and while I count that as experience...it's wasn't a profitable one!  So I'm trying to learn to do things right and from what I've learned so far on the forums here, BP will be really helpful.

I'm interested in eventually buy and holds in South Lake, but I've been looking into properties in Reno, NV as there it is a bigger town and has more properties and different possibilities for investing.  I would like to learn to do some wholesale and maybe some flipping, though rehabbing isn't high on my list of interests.

Anybody out there in my part of the world?
