I feel as though I am in the exact same spot as you @Nate Hicks . I actually just picked up @Brandon Turner's book, The Book on Rental Property Investing at Barnes and Nobles and almost got all the way through it today.  It reads just like he talks in his pod casts, so far so good.

Hello @Stephanie P.. Thank you for reaching out. We are under contract now on a single family house now for me and my g/f to move into. She (my g/f) used her VA loan to finance this house so I do still have mine available to me, but I couldn't ethically say I would be living in the house. I thought that was a requirement for the FHA loans only though, so I will have to look into that to clarify.

Hello @Jennifer Slaughter Thank you for reaching out to me. How was the experience of investing out of state? Were most of those properties turn-key rentals or part of your BRRRR plan? Did you do out of state for your first deal or did you leave that for after you had gotten your feet wet first? Then lastly, looking back, would you do the out of state investing again?

I just posted my introduction post today as well from Richmond, VA. I have a big question regarding your post as I have a lot of money in my IRA from my last job and was wondering how you are able to have access to your funds in your normal IRA without penalties. I have heard of self directed IRAs but the information I have found so far is wishy washy at best. How are you able to structure your IRA such that you have access to the fund for REI?

Hello Bigger Pockets!

I have been soaking up as much information as I can about real estate investing for a little over a year now and feel as though I have a decent foundation but there is always so much more to learn!

I separated from the US Navy after 8 years of service and I am ready to get started with a new career. At the moment I intend on investing in residential scale multi-family properties in Indianapolis, IN because that is where I am from and assume I will probably move back there at some point. The real estate there is also much more affordable in Indianapolis than it is here in Richmond, VA.

My goal is to do buy and hold multi-family real estate properties. I am going to have 100 units by the time I am 40 which is in a little over 8 years from now. I am hoping to connect with other real estate investors, especially local (here in Richmond, VA) ones so I can pick your brain and experience as well as lenders, property managers, contractors and real estate agents.
