Quote from @John Warren:
@Izzy Marquez where is the property located? The drainage pipe being pvc isn't necessarily a bad thing on these balconies, although it may or may not be done right. You would want a roofer to get the flat roof and gutter done right, and then a painter to do the exterior painting.
Thanks @John Warren. Location is Andersonville area. I had a few roofers come in and take a look.
The problem with the PVC is that all the joints are somewhat leaking, and gets blocked due to the size (2-3inch). They will likely need to tear the whole roof (and the ceiling of the portico) - seems to be the common opinion among roofers. I am just not sure how it will look after the roofers install metal coping etc there, or they would be careful about "aesthetic" details :)
Exterior/wood is also deteriorating, but I guess a painter can scrape the old paint and caulk for waterproofing. The material in between the roof is a weird galvanized tin type of thing that was painted over multiple times...

Hello there!
I have a portico with a leaky (flat) roof and peeling paint and a makeshift drainage/spout (someone put together some pvc pipes and drilled a hole into the balcony/porch/portico.
Now, I'd like to fix the roof and slightly renovate the portico for a more durable and modernish look (similar to the one in the picture).
Who should I reach out to for this?

@Jake Shulman: I can also recommend the Andersonville area or the area close to (slightly west of) the Thorndale red line station as a long term investment. It is relatively quiet, safe, close to the city and most importantly to the lake & lakeshore drive!
Perhaps the experts @Paul De Luca and @Brie Schmidt can also confirm if this makes sense. Cheers!

Hi all,
I am pretty new here, and to the real estate nvestment world. I am located in Chicago (city) and on the lookout for my 1st house hacking project. My current focus is Magnolia Glen (Senn HS area) / Andersonville area mostly, but wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions on these or other potential neighborhoods for investing in multifamily buildings.
Thanks again!
