I don't know a ton about Kalamazoo, but it would seem like the property is cheaper and the rent rates don't differ as greatly increasing your ROI in Kalamazoo.

Grand Rapids offers the potential for more appreciation but I am sure parts of Kalamazoo offer that as well.

@Jeff Halverson hey man the first step would be deciding where at in West Michigan, as the building codes and planning differ. Finding an experienced commercial builder wouldn't be tough as there are plenty of options.
