It took me nearly 8 months to figure out what this so called "mortgage forgiveness debt relief act" really was and how it could benefit me. I was with my wife one day and we overheard two couples talking about it and how it will be expiring at the end of 2012 (which means your house actually has to go through the process of a short-sale and close by Dec. 31st 2012; not just to start the process). Once I heard it was expiring, I decided to do some research on it because I don't want to miss out on a golden opportunity, which at that time I still couldn't figure out how it could help me out.
After doing some research online, I found a website called www.homehelpact.com which is a free counseling service and you can call and talk to FREE counselors about literally any questions you have. They explained everything to me and sent me all of the information within a few hours of contacting them. Then, once I decided that I needed to do a short-sale because this act is TOO good and I don't want to miss out on it, they put me in touch with a certified real estate agent that was OUTSTANDING. I must say, if anyone is seeking information on the Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act, I would highly suggest filling out the "Need Help?" page on www.homehelpact.com and they'll put you in touch with a FREE counselor, CPA, Financial Planner, Lawyer, etc. just to make sure that you get through this process with an unbiased point of view. Thanks www.HomeHelpAct.com!!!
Jack
