Post: Business structures, tax planning

Hi BP community,

I have had a meeting with a company called Anderson Business Advisors to determine how to set up REI business structures, achieve tax savings and protect my assets. While the company founder, Clint Coons, seems legit and very knowledgeable, the pricing seems a bit much. They sell packages and they are upwards of $10K and a la carte entity setups for $1500 and up.

Does anyone have experience with this company?  If so, what advice can you provide myself and others considering their service?  Are there other advisors (with CPAs and attorneys, preferably under one roof) that you can recommend?

Any feedback is very much appreciated!  Thanks.

Thanks everyone for the referrals.  I will look into them, and provide feedback when I have more information.

Hi Everyone,

I am considering a 1031 exchange on a property I own and was just wondering if anyone could recommend an intermediary company?  In case I need to meet with them in person, I am in the Los Angeles area.  Thanks!

James

@April Benard Love it!  This sounds very much like my plan right down to the volume of deals.

Would love to attend, but have to be somewhere else on 4/9.  When is the next one?

Also, I'd still like to connect with everyone, so what's the best way to do that before the next meetup occurs?  Is there a group mailing list or something?

Thanks for sharing your story @Nav Singh.  I have the same strategy of out-of-state investing and share the same concerns.  Yes, Podcast 167 with Kevin Wood was chalk full of tips and quite an inspiration for someone like me trying to invest while maintaining a FT job.

Where else do you plan to invest in the future?

Congratulations!!  Your story is an inspiration.

Hi everyone, I'm a new member from Southern CA. I am not exactly new to real estate investing since I’ve owned several rentals before, but I did it somewhat haphazardly. I am looking to become a professional investor now, thus joining BP!

I have a FT job in another field, but honestly, I spend more time learning more about real estate than I do on my day job. I even got my license and joined a broker, but haven't done anything yet.  I guess I have been fighting against my passion (if that makes sense) in that I love anything real estate-related, but can’t seem to leave my current career because I need the income. I don’t enjoy the field I am in and wish to transition into a career in RE while at the same time accelerating my RE investment activities so I can have a better retirement.

I’d say my investing interests are SFRs and multi-family, buy-and-hold mostly, with some flips (after I get experience) to generate cash for future down payments. Also interested in wholesaling and finding distressed properties and converting to contracts using private lender capital.

I hope to make friends, build a professional network, learn new investing strategies from seasoned investors and perhaps find my way into the career I’ve dreamed of for so long, but never did anything about. I appreciate any advice from members and I hope to eventually offer some guidance as well!

Thanks,

James
