I've been a bigger pockets member for some time now and I love seeing success stories. I'm obsessed with the Podcasts and reading discussions and forums. However, I haven't made the jump yet into real estate investing. It's not the my wife and I cant afford it. My wife is a nurse, and I'm a Union skilled Tradesman (Plumbing and Pipefitting). We can afford to make the jump perhaps a little easier than some. The problem for me, is convincing my wife that real estate can be as good of a retirement plan if not better, than perhaps traditional investment methods AKA......... 401K, Roth IRA, so on so forth. If anyone out there has had a similar situation, I'd like to hear how you went about breaking down the numbers and or perhaps a book that you turned your spouse or significant other onto, to get them on your side and see the bright side of Real Estate and the potential financial independence that can be achieved!

I failed to mention that I have found a few for neighboring states, being that I live minutes from Iowa and not too far from Missouri. I was already aware that it was public information but I've had no luck getting a reply from my county, so I was wondering how else I could obtain that info. Once I've found what I'm looking for, how do I decipher between land, residential, and commercial properties and so on?

Hello my name is Juan. I'm new to real estate investment. I'm a US Army Veteran/OIF and a Union member of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry. I bought my first home this year and recently got married. Now that all of that craziness is behind me I plan to buy my first rental in the New Year. I've been learning a lot reading the forums on here and listening to Podcast. I'm very interested in wholesale. I've recently attempted to obtain delinquent property tax lists from several illinois counties and I haven't had any luck. What other options do I have to obtain that information.
