I just finished this book and I thought it was great. Matt Desmond writes about the eviction culture in Milwaukee inner city neighborhoods from both the landlord and the tenant perspective. He actually lived in a trailer park and other apartments to see how these people live and how evictions have become a part of their daily lives.

I am coming down to St. Petersburg this week to look at some houses that I can buy as a second home (I live in NJ) and then rent out and do repeat. I currently have rentals in NJ but I am looking for other areas of the U.S. where I can spend my winters.
If you are an investor in this area and don't mind meeting up with another like minded investor to offer some advice, please send me a PM. Thanks

Stop posting on this forum and buy a house. You don't want to be one of those guys who tries to analyze everything and never pulls the trigger.
Don't speculate. Buy a house in a good, stable area.

Hey I have a problem tenant in Ocean County NJ and I am looking for an attorney to help with the eviction. This will be my first one so I don't have an attorney yet. Any recommendations would be helpful. Thanks.
I am in the same boat, I have a property that I bought at auction and the owner is still living there. I personally don't want to kick this guy out so I think it best to hire an attorney to handle things. I am also in New Jersey

Great way to jump right in to real estate investing is going to sheriff sales. I would go to county auctions and observe for at least 3 or 4 times. Check out who is bidding on the properties, there are regular guys at all of these things. My first house that I bought at a sheriff's sale I only saw a picture of it online, but there was plenty of bidding at the auction so I put my hand up. I owned it 30 days later and it took me a year to finish all the repairs. It is now rented out to a nice section 8 tenant and I have that income coming in every month. I had no idea what I was doing but I went out of my comfort zone and learned as I went. Better than reading about how other guys are investing in real estate.
