Post: Renting garage?

I looked at a building that had a 3 bdrm/2bath owner unit with a humungous RV garage. I'm sure it allowed to get a premium on the big unit, but I looked into renting out the garage as RV storage, looked like I could get an extra $500 a month (in Alaska).

 My aunt built a house around her RV, with a bathroom and small living areas in the building but lived in the RV, unique living situation. But I'm sure we might be seeing a lot more of this as the Baby Boomers begin to retire and start living in their RVs.

@Milton Johnson

I'm also Active, stationed Conus though and have been developing a strategy that will work for me, very difficult as I know' I'll be transferring somewhere next year, hoping for Cleveland, but still am not certain. The most diffcult part is knowing a location. Even the location I used to know, Anchorage, AK, has changed a ton since living there. I've been developing a strategy for long distance investing, using a team in the area, also developing relationships with active investors that can help me and give better up to date local. Difficult but doable. Good luck, but make it yourself.

Great thank you for the information. The 3x rent to income ratio is just wise budgeting practice, If I expect myself to do it why wouldn't I expect a tenant to do it.

The Traditional TSP, which most people have, is pre tax (tax deferred until withdrawel) they do have the new ROTH TSP which is post tax, I don't even know if you can take a loan out on that.

I don't thik that sounds relistic because you are paying yourself, and therefore it is not really interest.

Hello,

I'm developing a business plan for my REI and I'm wondering what credit score do most people use to determine potential tenants? 780,740,720, 550???? Is the score or the record what concerns landlors most?

I plan on using 35% of income as a maximum for rent affordability. Is that practical?

Thanks

"I've already thought about that and scored very well on the ASVAB I got approved for nuke in the navy only thing is nuke is a 2 year school so a 6 year term."

6 years go by fast. There are tons of jobs in the miltiary that are fun. In the Coast Guard we entrust 18 year old kids driving ships, and small boats. No where else in the U.S does someone give the responsibility of 5+ lives and a $500K small boat to an 18 year old kid. Don't be afraid to do something just for fun, just because you may be extremely intelligent people might want you to do "intelligent jobs", most times those aren't that much fun. Be a Boatswainmate drive boats, be in infantry shoot guns, etc ASVAB score required.... about 45.

I say this all the time. I would join the military. Specifically The Coast Guard or Marines. What a great way to build discipline, job experience, have fun, travel, learn to lead others, learn sacrifice and selflessness, build comraderie, gain LIFE perspective, establish your credibility and character as a young man, and build your credit. You also get to have tons of fun blowing stuff up maybe, or driving boats and helping people.

At 22 you get out of a 4 year enlistment. And you walk away with all the above, and..... the Post 9/11 GI Bill (pays for your the highest in state tuition in whatever state you are in) Housing allowance at the E-5 pay grade (how much depends on the market and where you go to school), and an extra $1000 a year. And that's not all... Your VA loan. Find a Multi Family home, do an owner occupied for $0 down, live in it, and collect rent. As far as college students go, you'd be balling!

If I only knew then what I know now. It didn't turn out so bad for me, free education, promoted from E-1 to O-3 in under ten years, Did I mention I get to drive a 13K ton ship through 20 feet of ice in Antarctica! pretty sweet.

I am interested in the possibility. Please message me.
