@Thomas Mattausch hey there, I worked with becu as I have an account through them and like that they are a credit union. I had quicken loans who was who held the loan with my dad approve me as well they needed like 0 info, a current pay stub and my social and they had everything all ready to go... but I was a little put off by that and heard some not great things about them when I started to shop around for loans. Becu was much more involved to get approved, it took 3 separate times to get the right info (not using an agent and having to go through the process for the first time) i paid for an appraisal before hand but becu needed their guy to do it so I had to pay for another one (again my bad) then it came down to credit, work history, and d.t.i. all in all I got a great rate they walked us through the gift of equity (can expand on the deal my dad and I worked out if interested ) and we were off to the races. start to finish about a month and a half to close.
@Aaron Nelson thanks for the tips, I'd definitely like to meet people in the area and pick their brains! Seattle and Renton are close so both sound great to me. do they have websites I can check out to see when they meet?
@Brian Hughes I forgot to mention how right you are that prices keep going up and the longer they wait the more appreciation they're missing out on! @ 20% down on my place, the payment is less than you can rent a 2 bedroom in most places around Seattle.
@Brian Hughes thank you so much, you want to talk about doing some tricky financing on this place... it was very unconventional. Anyway I would be very interested in joining a local group as I am a sponge for new and critical information to moving forward successfully. Can I find your group on here? Yes I have looked into king country regulations, they aren't unreasonable for my goals and actually fit what I have in mind. Besides that tax of course! I think a fixed rate is a little steep vs a % system but I guess they wanted to make it easy for themselves. I am about 10 minutes away from "sea international" so I look to capitalize on that proximity :)
"GrantFosheim" thanks, I tend to work very hard to achieve my goals so I am definitely excited for what the future holds. Currently I am in the union and most of my residential work is by way of side jobs, I'm in Burien so I am not familiar with contractors in your area. Although I do have all the necessary certificates to open my own shop. I can try to get my uncles company name as he works in the north end and is an excellent electrician and very honest and trustworthy if you are interested.
Hello BP community, my name is Jordan and wanted to say hello finally and also add my thanks for all the incredible information shared on this platform. About me: 24 y/o electrician who has lived in Seattle most of my life. Recently bought a house from my dad, got a decent deal but learned never do business with family. It's an older home with the basement being mostly original (68). 1600sq' 4 bedroom 1.5 bath. I am doing a full remodel downstairs and am doing the work myself. I rent out my downstairs bedroom currently. I wanted to set a lofty goal of being neutral to positive cash flow by the end of the year through increased rent downstairs after the remodel and turning my upstairs bedrooms into airbnb rentals. I have big plans for the next 5 years, I have a great great starting point and with the knowledge available from this site hope to expand with confidence. My knowledge is in the electrical field so feel free to contact me with any questions as I would like to give back to this community.
