@Carlos Velasquez I really appreciate you sharing some of your own experiences in the CT market. I agree that a sf home would likely be the best way to start especially if I don’t plan on living in it. It would be a little more affordable and hopefully easier to manage since it’s less tenants. I just connected with you, I would love the chance to chat with you further and learn from you. Also please feel free to use me as a resource as well. I am a tax professional in NY so if you ever have any questions I please don’t hesitate to ask.

Great to meet you Shawn. Thank you so much for the feedback. Ive certainly felt this at first as everything seemed like a great idea. I'm now trying to stay focused buying rentals as this is what attracted me to real estate investing in the first place. I will keep reading and gaining knowledge from others as well as the areas I want to invest in until I feel comfortable to make a move. Hoping we can stay in touch, would love to learn from local investors. Also can you recommend some meet ups in NJ?

@Joseph Guzzardi Jr Pleasure to meet you Joeseph. Unfortunately if I decide to invest in south NJ I wouldn't be able to house hack as it would be too far from my job. Would you be willing to chat sometime and discuss potential investing areas? Also can you recommend any local meetup groups for new investors? Looking forward to your feedback!

@Jonathan Greene  I should of clarified that my real estate buddy and I are in our 20's so the advice he was trying to provide was clearly not backed by much experience. Believe me when I say I would not have acted on this without gaining knowledge from people with more experience. I've considered starting with a house hack but like you said it doesn't rally suit how I want to live which is why I'm considering a state like Connecticut where its a bit more affordable. I'll start looking into local real estate meet ups as well as in Connecticut to gain more knowledge of the areas I'm interested in. Thank you so much for the feedback Jonathan!!

Hey there bigpocketers! My name is Kris, I’m 27 and I currently live in New Jersey. I’m looking to buy my first rental property in the next year or so but am unsure where to start. I would like to invest in my home state in southern New Jersey but I have also been looking at rentals in parts of Connecticut, since it’s a bit more affordable. I have also been told by a real estate agent that I’m friends with that I should start by flipping houses in order to increase my capital since I only have about 30k right now. What do you guys think is the best way to get started for someone in my situation. Greatful for any type of feedback!!
