@John Underwood, with there so much talk on the boards about How Much Money Will I Make Doing Short Term Rentals...well, there is the other side.  It is very manageable, just a little work to solve, and as you said, the cost of doing business.  I do not currently have cameras, but they are looking better by the moment!

And @David Bergmann, I like those very pragmatic solutions. Both of these groups violated my rules for "no gatherings," "4 cars in driveway" but I didn't say "Do not park on grass."  I will now put that in my house rules.  I need to verify that I have quiet hours, but I clearly say it is a quiet residential neighborhood.  AirBnb has a no-party rule, globally.  So they broke AirBnb rules, too.  I haven't had to report on a guest, so will go dig up some information on this and start a new How To post.

Thanks for responding.

Anyone else have recent problem-guest stories they want to share?

 I grew up listening to punk rock and reading 1984. I WAS by no means a security camera enthusiast. I had a similar situation and ordered the cameras on Amazon while I was waiting for the cops.

I now have a small str management business- I won't cohost a property without cameras. I now have a 0 ******** threshold. There are some real POS out there, like the group we asked to leave, canceled their reservation and still wouldn't leave, called the cops, cops remove them 4 hrs later, and they review us calling us racist. So there's another 4+ hours with airbnb "support".

Airbnb is going to be a rodeo this summer. Get a grip and hold on.

@James Wise

That's crazy! I've only been here 6 years. I know much of this is a correction but when a 2/1 in a lakewood duplex rents for $1200 ... who is renting these places? I feel like the SFH market is solid but some areas are overvalued especially when this morning a duplex on w 132nd or so got listed at 200k.

Meanwhile in the greater Orlando area you have all the private sector space $$$ going into the space coast (and all the tourism that will come with manned space missions) if I lived there I'd be looking in my back yard.

Cleveland is not the gold rush it was 5 years ago with 25k duplexes on Madison and w 90th. Wish I had money back then :)

@Ben Morand

West Cleveland is imo starting to becoming overvalued.

Cleveland Cleveland Cleveland!

I see you live in Orlando. If I lived in Orlando I would be looking hard at ranch homes on the space coast as Airbnbs.

Then you are doing good. Read "rich dad poor dad". It's going to change the way you think about money.

Get a library card. My library has an ebook platform where I can borrow tons of books on my phone as audiobooks for free. The biggerpockets books are probably the best on the market, but start with rich dad poor dad. That teaches you the mentality you need to be in.

Also - try to keep emotions out of real estate. It's really hard. Reeeeeealy hard. But it's money and everything is a MATH PROBLEM. Solve the math, show your work, do your homework and ur gonna kill it!

@Robert Williams

I saved up 12k and a family member left me 10k in their will. A family member helped me by co-signing so I was fortunate but there are many ways to do this.

"If there's a will there's a way"

What skills do you have? Are you currently employed? Do you know someone with money they want to put to work? How can you help other people?

Adding value to deals can help you be a part of them.

5 years ago I had -$800 in my bank account. I had a car to drive for free and a free place to stay (furnished basement of a family member). I now own 5 doors. I have an airbnb property that stacks cash.

Most people are stuck in the rat race "matrix" and don't even know it. Finding this site was the first step. Start grinding and u will get there

@Veronica Hennessey

I think you should link up with one of the knowledgeable people in this thread to help guide you. Cleveland can be a minefield. You can make alot of money here and you can buy a dog of a property.

I personally would not invest in cleveland without someone holding my hand for the first time. Especially in this market.

@Federico Gutierrez

Right on the money. Any decent areas in 44111 are going for 115ish+. Federico knows his stuff. He helped me buy my first home when I had literally no idea what I was doing.
