Post: New Investor to Grand Rapids /Mentor tips

Hi BP Members, as a new Investor to the Grand Rapids area I have recently been soaking up as much knowledge as I can before tackling my first flip. As many suggest, I am interested in working with a mentor on my first few flips, an investor who could possibly fund deals and has knowledge while I run the leg work. As some background, I have one property which I currently rent, limited funds but plenty of time to learn and execute paperwork, oversee vendors, drive for dollars, do direct mail campaigns, etc. I have a degree in business administration and several years of admin, clerical and customer service experience.

My question... are my skills some things that a person may look for in a mentor? Do any local investors have recommendations on where I can find these mentors? Also, I have seen some suggestions to utilize the BP forums to speak with experts, that may not be in my farm area, however can answer my questions. What are you thoughts on this form of mentorship? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Thank you all for the valuable advice. Really setting tangible goals, and starting with more simplistic flips can help me achieve the experience and courage I need to really dive  in.

Hello! I'm a new investor out in Grand Rapids, MI. I am ready to start finding deals and getting into fix and flips however I don't know where to start!! Ive done so much reading and research on the topic (Bigger Pockets is a Godsend!) however when it comes to pressing that go button, I freeze up, because I don't think I have all the necessary info or tools needed to be successful.  Does anyone out there have any useful tips to get going? What were the primary /basic tools used to atleast get your business up and running? What tools do you believe are "must haves" versus "nice to have "? I appreciate all responses!

@jackie runals @courtney sorrell, I would love to go to the women's Meetup! Would one of you be able to provide the details? I have been attempting to go to the larger one at BW3, but haven't had a chance around my schedule yet. I would love to get some insight from others that are on this journey!

Hi All!

My name is Lauren and I am new to real estate investing experience. Going into 2017, I have finally decided that I want to be done with the typical 9-5 job and work on creating wealth for myself with real estate investing. As a newbie I wanted to network with people in the area ask some tips and tricks that people use to make their first move in this business? I live outside of Detroit, but also frequent the Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti area as well. I welcome any advice! :-)
