I don't think there is a risk of R.E losing value because of the water crisis here.  The reality is that people come here because of jobs and the weather.   In my area, houses get listed and sell in a few days, sometimes in a few hours.   The demand for homes in good neighborhoods is incredible and folks are making cash offers for $1M+ properties all the time.  Time will tell, I suppose, but it's bound to rain here at some point in the future.

Hi @Ali Boone - thanks.  Well I had to move my parents from South America and they ended up in Weston.  I really liked it there and I figure I would buy something for myself near them.    I see you are also a pilot - I used to be - went to Embry-Riddle in Daytona but I became a computer programming nerd along the way ;-).   What are you doing in terms of turnkey?  Are you investing in CA?

cheers to you!

Thanks @Larry Fried.   I've explored Memphis and Dallas so far.  I have made no decisions on this yet.  I'd like to explore good markets a bit closer to home (but not in CA).  How are things in Eugene?  My wife went to school at UO so I am a little familiar with it.

Cheers!

Hi everyone,

I am new to the site and so far I find it to be a gold mine. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about R.E. investment (primarily from the many books I've read) but in reality I have very little practical experience. I am looking to slowly transition out of my corporate America job and into a full time REI. I currently own a home in San Jose which I bought 13 years ago at half of what it is valued at today (crazy SF Bay Area prices). I also own a condo in Weston, FL which I rent out.

I am looking to learn more about real estate investments, maybe partnering with someone on a multi-unit investment.  I am also very interested in turnkey investments given that I am still very much consumed by my full time job.   I look forward to meeting folks on the site and sharing info with all of you.   Happy Investing !
