Thank you everyone for responding and giving your insight!

I am starting to re-evaluate my plan as the Bay Area is a very expensive market. I am looking at properties still in the Bay Area but in cheaper markets. Planning on "driving for dollars" to see if I can find some good deals off the market as @Michael Nicholson suggested.

@Jay DeCima If I had cash flow to use I would definitely use it, but I don't. My only source of income right now is from my day job so unless I can find a partner or another creative way of using someone else's money to invest in my first property, then I will have to use money from my job.

@Sydney Hall Nice to meet you! I hope we can do business together in the future!

@Paul Timmins I plan on going to a REIA club meeting soon!

Unless I can find a creative way to finance my first property, I will keep saving and learning as much as I can. As much as I am excited about RE investing and want to get started today, I also don't want to jump into anything without fully understanding what I am getting into so I think learning and saving is important for now.

I really appreciate everyone responding! Having people behind you with good advice is super helpful!

Hello everyone! I am very new to real estate investing but I have a hunger to succeed in this market. I stumbled upon bigger pockets during my research for more information and knowledge and I think it is a great resource! I am currently looking into making my first purchase and start my real estate investing journey! Any advice or constructive criticism is welcome! My plan is to save up enough money from my day job ($1000/mo) to put down a down payment through an FHA loan on a multi family home where I would be living in one of the units and renting the others out. I feel like I would have enough by mid next year. I live in the Bay Area so the cheapest homes of this type that I have seen (on mls) are in the 400k-500k range (this info was from a duplex I saw). I feel like this is a good plan to get started. What do y'all think?
